Who would be the audience for your media product?
For our OTS we decided to choose the age group to be 15-23. This is because horror appeals more to people around this age and is the type of genre they like and are more likely to watch. Most horror films are usually rated a 15 due to the violence, strong language and discriminatory behaviour they can display. Also our horror film wouldn't be appropriate for young children to see as they are scenes that could make them feel disturbed and scared.
We decided to do interviews to find out if people 15-23 liked our film like we thought they would or if they did not. We asked 4 people, two of them were our target range, 1 was older and 1 was younger. We did this because we wanted to see the different types of reactions from different age groups. Having their opinion let us decide whether the age group we chose was correct or whether we chose to show this to the wrong types of people.
These are the questions we asked;
What is your name?
How old are you?
Do you like horror?
Have you watched our opening title sequence?
Did you enjoy it?
If you did, why? If you didn't, why not?
Could it be improved? How?
Would you pay to see it in cinema?
The two people who were in the age group 15-23 that we chose are Eve and Nick who are 15 and 19. We then interviewed two people who weren't. We chose Dan and Yvonne who are 13 and 37. This was because we expanded our potential target audience to see how they reacted to our opening title sequence. Dan who was 13 years old didn't like our opening title sequence because of the scenes that were in it as they may have been scary for him. From this we decided our target audience range was appropriate because Eve and Nick who were 15 and 19 years old enjoyed the opening title sequence and didn't get too scared by it therefore we seen it as appropriate to keep it as 15-23.
