We were given a task to produce a ten shot horror with the following criteria-
1. Off Kilter Shot. 2. Over the Shoulder Shot of the Killer. 3. Close up on the Weapon. 4. Close up/Extreme Close up of Fear. 5. 360 Degree Shot to Show Isolation/Fear. 6. High Angle Shot to Show Victims Vulnerability. 7. Low Angle Shot to Show the Power of the Killer. 8. Stab Someone Without Hurting Them. 9. Point of View of Victim 10. Use the Power of Suggestion Here is what we produced |
|
High angle on victim- using a high angle on the victim shows that they are innocent and is also making them seem powerless. It also gives the audience a sense of danger and that the actor is no longer safe, something bad is about to happen. We start to sympathies and get worried for the victim.
Over the shoulder of killer- this helps to create suspense. we are unable to see the killers face but we can see that they are watching our victim which gets us worried because we are unsure what is going to happen to them but we know something bad is going to happen soon.
Close up on killers face- even though this is unusual we have used a close up on the killers face but he has been framed by the wall, and he isn't very clear so the audience are still confused what this is and whats going to happen next as the killer quickly moves away in the next angle.
Close up on weapon- The audience are now getting a sense of fear as they are reassured what they would have initially thought as the killer has a weapon. They are going to be worried for the poor victim and know that this isn't a happy ending.
Close up showing fear- this angle should have been a close up on the actors face as it would have added more tension and it would have shown how scared they actually were but instead we used a long shot by accident, this doesn't have such a big impact as it should have done.
Using weapon with out hurting- this automatically makes the audience sit at the edge of their seat, they're terrified because they now know that the victim is in danger and going to be killed. It needs to look as realistic as possible but its vital that no one is actually hurt.
Faked killing- this is where to victim is acting to be hurt but aren't actually hurt. the high angle is showing that the victim is now powerless and has no chance. We have also used blood to make it seem more realistic so it looks like the killer has actually stabbed the victim.
Low angle on killer- this is important because it shoes the power of the killer and also shows the killer from the victims point if view.
What went well
The thing that went well in our clip was that we used the low angle to show that the power of the killer and the high angle to show the weakness of the victim. We also used a high angle at the start to get the audience thinking and they would have felt a sense of horror as it made the victim look vulnerable as she was walking into the UN known. We also used a over the shoulder shot which was good to use as we found out there was a killer about to attack.

What we can improve on
In this task we haven't actually stuck to the brief very well and we can use this as a great opportunity to pick out the things that we could improve on. Firstly we could improve on the amount of angles we need to use. We should use a wide variety of angles to create more tension (with close ups and extreme close ups) as we very rarely used them in our ten horror shots. We also should think about using the 360 degree shot as this would have helped to make the victim come across as isolated and shown her fear as she was unsure what was going on around her. Using an off kilter shot could have helped our clip to show a sense of uncertainty, to make the audience think that something bad was going to happen. Also if we were to do this again we would use a tripod to make it more focused and still to create better quality scenes.
